As I reflect on my journey through leadership, one truth continues to stand out: leadership is not about how brightly we shine, but about the light we leave behind.

Over the years, I have worked in teams across industries and continents, from engineering to technology, from research to teaching. Along the way, I have encountered every kind of leader: the visionaries who light up entire rooms, the organisers who keep everything in motion, the nurturers who quietly hold teams together, and the bursts of brilliance that change everything for a moment and then disappear.

Each of them has shaped how I see leadership. Each has left a mark.

When I began writing The Leadership Cosmos, I wanted to make sense of why some teams thrive while others struggle, and why some leaders seem to sustain their influence while others fade. What I discovered was a simple truth: leadership, like the cosmos, depends on balance.

  • The Suns inspire us to move forward.

  • The Moons keep us grounded and cared for.

  • The Stars ensure that the system works.

And even the Shooting Stars, fleeting as they are, remind us that light can still inspire wonder, even if only for a moment.

I have come to realise that leadership is not a solo act. It is a shared rhythm, a constellation of people, values, and choices working together to illuminate something greater than any one of us could on our own. Our legacy as leaders is not defined by titles, projects, or even success. It is defined by how we help others find their own light.

A Moment for Reflection

Pause and ask yourself:

  1. What kind of light will you leave behind?

  2. Is it one that warms, guides, or reflects?

  3. Or will it fade as soon as the spotlight moves?

True leadership does not end when the meeting closes or the project is complete. It lives on in the people who continue to shine because of the light we shared.

That is the light we leave behind.
